Wasteful Waiting

Who here is guilty of wasting their waiting season? I’ll go first — hand raised, heart open. I have no problem admitting that I’ve squandered time, distracted by my own dutiful comings and goings, envious of others who seemed to have it all figured out. I’ve watched my peers — my age-mates — living lives that looked so put-together on paper and in pictures, while I sat wondering if I’d missed something. Wasting our waiting season is more than just poor time management. It’s a quiet rejection of the gift God has given us — the precious, finite days of this life — and of His invitation to fill even the in-between with meaningful, purposeful work.

For me, wasteful waiting was complacency dressed up as piety — calling it “waiting on God” when really, I was waiting for comfort, for guarantees, for circumstances that felt easy. I told myself I needed a sign before I could act, when in reality I was just afraid to move. But how many of us know that God doesn’t let His children simply sit in the waiting without asking us to put some skin in the game? The Word reminds us: Faith without works is dead. Especially in the turbulent times we live in now, faith is not just a feeling — it’s an action verb. And so often, the work He calls us to in the waiting season is the most selfless, invisible kind — the kind no one else sees.

No one sees when you stay late to help with the project. No one sees when you show up as a friend, a confidant, or a quiet supporter. No one sees when you pour your excellence into a job that feels small and unnoticed. No one sees when you lay down your dreams to help someone else build theirs. No one sees when you raise a child through tears, on the brink of giving up. No one sees what it takes for you to overcome the weight of depression or anxiety just to get out of bed, just to take a shower.

Nobody sees — but God does.

He has always seen you. Even when His reasons feel beyond our understanding, even when you wonder if He’s forgotten you — He hasn’t. Rest assured: not just in words or feelings, but in truth — He knows. He knows exactly where you are, exactly what it has cost you to keep showing up. And He is ready, even now, to carry what you can no longer bear. His yoke is easy — release it. His burden is light — relinquish control. And watch how your waiting can become an Awakening.

So what about you? How have you spent your waiting season? Have you seen Him show up in ways you didn’t expect? I’d love to hear how your waiting — even the invisible kind — has shaped you. Share your story below; your words might just encourage someone else who is still in the middle of their wait.
