The Deep Hunger We All Carry

With the wealth of knowledge at our fingertips — the internet, formal education, conversations over coffee, TED Talks, dog-eared books, and the well-worn wisdom of those who’ve lived long enough to speak truth without hesitation — to remain unaware of life’s processes is no longer a matter of ignorance, but of choice.

We are surrounded by connection in countless forms. From the moment we’re born, our very biology testifies to it:
Blood cells cling together in times of crisis.
DNA threads itself into intricate chains to create life.
Water molecules collide and bind as condensation forms.
Animals run in packs for protection, belonging, and purpose.
Humans, too, are wired for intense interaction — from our first breath to our last.

And yet…
Why does it so often feel as if something essential is still missing?

Deep inside the well of our soul, there is a hunger — almost tangible, almost painful — to be seen, to be heard, to be admired, to be desired, and to be affirmed. Maybe the need itself hasn’t grown stronger; perhaps we’ve simply been given more language to name it. Social media, modern psychology, and open conversation have provided us with words for the aching void we’ve always carried. But naming it doesn’t always fill it.

God’s word speaks about the importance of gathering together — “not forsaking the assembling of ourselves” — but what does that really mean in a world where we can “connect” without ever leaving our couch? It means more than a Sunday handshake or a casual hello in the hallway. It means leaning into one another’s lives, bearing witness to each other’s struggles and triumphs, creating a shared rhythm that says: You are not alone here.

This hunger we feel is not weakness. It is a divine design. We were never meant to do life in isolation, not in mind, not in body, and certainly not in spirit. The gathering is not about numbers; it’s about presence. It’s about the power that comes when two or more souls stand together in truth, in vulnerability, and in love.

So, the next time you feel that deep, unshakable longing… don’t dismiss it.
It’s not a flaw in your soul.
It’s the fingerprint of God, calling you back to the very thing you were made for: connection.
